In August of this year, the Kelowna area was ravaged by a wildfire that burnt out or damaged over 200 homes, including the homes of 13 members of the Wilson's Landing Fire Department. Their department only has a crew of 25 members, so the loss of that staggering number of members' homes is devastating to the community.
As a small department ourselves, the Keremeos & District Fire Department had a hard time imagining what those firefighters have gone through this summer.
So, with some amazing help and organization from the team at Buy-Low in Keremeos, we came together to find out what we could do to help the Wilson's Landing team and the Kelowna area as a whole.
On Sunday, September 24, 2023, we held a successful charity BBQ to raise funds for Central Okanagan Fire Relief in support of those firefighters.
Special thanks go out to Jen, Joan and the entire team at Buy-Low Keremeos for helping organize this event and donating your time, supplies & effort.
This past summer has been a tough one, with many other communities suffering incalculable losses. Please stay tuned for future fundraising events to help rebuild small communities just like ours.
